Africa celebrates Peace and Reconciliation Day on Tuesday

Africa-Press – Angola. The African continent celebrates on Tuesday (31), for the first time, the Day of Peace and Reconciliation, following the Declaration of the 16th Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government in Africa, held in May 2022, in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

In a note, the Permanent Representation of Angola to the African Union (AU) informs that the launch of the referred event should take place with the holding of a virtual meeting, organized by the Peace and Security Council (CPS) of the African Union.

The document refers that the program of the ceremony foresees the intervention of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, as Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa.

The Permanent Representation of Angola to the AU refers that the date was deliberately chosen in honor of the adoption, in 2015, of the AU Agenda 2063, entitled “The Africa we want”.

The agenda also foresees a statement by the President of the African Union Commission (AUC), the Chadian Moussa Faki Mahamat, and interventions by representatives of Member States, especially those that make up the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the continental organization.

The event will also feature two declarations of goodwill, one from the Chair of the AU Panel of Wise Men and former President of the Republic of Burundi, Domitien Ndayizize, and another from the co-chair of the Network of African Women in Conflict Prevention and Mediation” FemWise-Africa”.
