Africa-Press – Angola. The increase in food and energy prices on the international market constitutes a “real threat” to food security and a “danger” to the budgets of several African States, considered, this Monday, in Luanda, the specialist in International Relations Amaral Lara.
The university lecturer, who was speaking at the Conference on Diplomacy and International Security, an initiative of the Venâncio de Moura Diplomatic Academy, defended, therefore, the need to increase domestic production or the creation of collective strategies to reduce dependence on exports.
Amaral Lara also said that with the current international scenario it is an opportunity for oil and gas producing states to try to fill the gap in supply to Europe and materialize their economic diversification strategies.
When lecturing on “The position of African States in the face of the conflict in Ukraine”, the professor understands that, despite the neutrality of African countries in the face of the conflict, these may suffer consequences.
“On the one hand, due to neutrality and, on the other hand, dialogue, since many African economies depend on products such as wheat and fertilizers from Russia and Ukraine”, he stressed.
On her turn, the professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Minho, in Portugal, Laura Pereira, said that the war in Ukraine caused the deterioration of the security environment in Europe, “which forced the existing alliances to close ranks and find multiple strategies to deal with the growing Russian threat”.
