African Union and Red Cross join Government efforts to combat drought

Africa-Press – Angola. A Joint Mission of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the African Union Commission and the Red Cross of Angola, should soon travel to the provinces of Cunene, Huíla and Namibe to assess the extent of the drought’s impact on communities in the southern region of the country.

According to a press release from the Angolan embassy in Ethiopia sent , the joint mission intends to complement the efforts of the Angolan Executive in responding to the drought situation with a food security operation in the aforementioned provinces, namely through an integrated program that contribute to the long-term nutrition and food security of the population.

The matter was discussed, Thursday, in Addis Ababa, during a working meeting that the Angolan ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Francisco da Cruz, had with the head of the Delegation and Permanent Representative of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies with the continental organization, Itonde Kakoma.

Summit On Terrorism

In another aspect of his diplomatic action, Francisco da Cruz also met with the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Bankole Adeoye, to discuss the preparation of the Extraordinary Summit on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government, scheduled for the 28th of May, in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, on the initiative of the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.

It is recalled that Commissioner Bankole paid a visit to Angola last week to make contact with government authorities on the matter, having been received in audience by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
