Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Namibe province, Archer Mangueira, paid tribute Sunday, on behalf of the people of Namibe, to the National Men’s Senior Basketball Team for winning its 12th African title on the 24th.
In the final, played at the Kilamba pavilion in Luanda, Angola defeated Mali by a resounding 70-43.
Archer Mangueira, speaking after a parade that brought together 15 other vehicles, thanked the athletes and technical team for their commitment to winning the trophy.
He praised the local port company for its support in organizing the competition, which Angola hosted for the fourth time, following the 1989, 1999, 2007, and now 2025 editions.He congratulated the members of the National Team and the Angolan Basketball Federation for their organization.
The coordinator of the Executive Committee of the Local Organizing Committee (AFROLOC), Mário Rosa, praised the people and the authorities of Namibe for the strength they demonstrated during the games.
“I’m hopeful that the next championship will be ours and we’ll win our 13th title,” he predicted.
Meanwhile, the captain of the national team, Gerson Gonçalves “Lukeny,” acknowledged the fans’ hospitality, adding that the team achieved its goal of winning the trophy.
Recall that the national team has received several tributes for its continental achievement, notably one from the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
During the event, the Angolan five-man squad played and won two matches in the city of Moçâmedes, defeating Guinea 84-68 and South Sudan 66-64.
Angola made a perfect showing in the competition, winning all six matches and defeating Mali 70-43 in the final.
Point guard Childe Dundão and center Bruno Fernando were among the tournament’s top five. Dundão was also named Most Valuable Player (MVP).
