Africa-Press – Angola. Twelve thousand families affiliated with agricultural associations and cooperatives are involved in the 2024/2025 agricultural campaign, in the commune of Caiuera, municipality of Catabola, in Bié.The announcement was made by the communal administrator of Caiuera, Sabino Henda Francisco, during the official opening of the season in the district, marked by the delivery of fertilizers and other inputs.

The official announced that the Government of the Province of Bié made available to the commune of Caiuera, fertilizers, various seeds and work instruments such as hoes, axes, machetes, rakes, motor pumps, cultivators, among others.

The fertilizer subsidy project will boost the agricultural sector in Caiuera, where 80 percent of the population is dedicated to agriculture.

Sabino Henda Francisco stated that the farmers of Caiuera expect to harvest more than 400 tons of various products in the current agricultural campaign, with emphasis on cereals, mainly corn, soybeans, wheat, rice and various vegetables.

More incentives

In turn, farmer Isidro Viume said he had prepared 50 hectares of land, 30 of which were for corn production and 20 for beans, an action that created temporary employment for 150 families from the surrounding villages.

He asked for more incentives for Caiuera farmers, from the Provincial Government, to promote production and, with it, contribute to strengthening food security in the communities.

The commitment to the production of corn and beans is a result of the fact that these are the crops that bring the most income.

The municipality of Catabola is considered one of the main producers of butter beans and rice. It also produces corn, cassava, sweet and scalloped potatoes, pumpkin, cucumber and various fruits.
