Africa-Press – Angola. Farmers asked this Monday in Benguela for government support for the production of vaccines for cattle in Angola, given the high costs of acquiring them on the market.
Agricultural producers in the provinces of Benguela, Namibe, Huíla, Cunene, Cuanza Sul, Cuanza Norte and Luanda expressed their concern about the high price of vaccines, in the balance of the Agricultural Fair of Benguela province, held from 19 to 21 May.
In this segment of activity for ten years, Mário Rui Santos, from Fazenda 2M, in Planalto de Camabatela, Cuanza Norte province, comes out in defense of the class and complains about the difficulties with the price of medicines to prevent and combat diseases in cattle.
These are contagious pleuropneumonia, anthrax and nodular dermatitis, diseases that have caused great damage to agricultural producers in the country.
“We should already be vaccinating the animals and we felt some difficulties with the vaccines”, he reinforces, noting that there are already projects for local manufacture and, for this, incentives are necessary, so that entrepreneurs invest in this sector.
For Mário Rui Santos, there is also a need for greater support, mainly on the issue of importing medicines, including antibiotics and other products for the control of ticks that attack animals.
With regard to the Benguela Agricultural Fair, he says he has bought six head of Brahman cattle, of high fertility, for the genetic improvement of the animals at the 2M farm, in the well-known Plateau of Camabatela.

The Brazilian Welis Santos, commercial director of Casa do Fazendeiro, located in Luanda, recognizes that the success of the Benguela fair is proof that the Angolan market is on the right path and that each day is growing at a very interesting speed.
“We brought new agricultural machinery, seeds, medicines. All that to boost and help the country’s agricultural and livestock growth”, adds Welis Santos, who has been investing in agribusiness in Angola for six years.
Edna Monteiro, from the company Royal Empire, also based in Luanda, is pleased to have managed to close some deals with the sale of motocultivators, that is, small equipment that does the same job as a normal tractor.
According to the exhibitor, as they are useful on small plots of land, power tillers are recommended for small farmers and, therefore, the request was very good during the fair.
Nelson Duarte indicated that the focus of Sistec Energia at this fair was the presentation of a pumping system with solutions from one kilowatt to five megawatts, and the discounts made helped to invoice.
Celso Borges, from the Tchimbolelo farm, in the province of Huíla, also profited from the sale of some lots of goats and sheep, except for the cattle that were left due to a truck breakdown in that region.
“I am satisfied with the sales I made. It is always good to be in an environment like this, because there is an exchange of views with other farmers”, concluded the exhibitor, who has been working in animal husbandry for five years.
The event brought together more than 250 exhibitors from the provinces of Benguela, Namibe, Huíla, Cunene, Cuanza Sul, Cuanza Norte and Luanda, in addition to guests from abroad, with emphasis on Namibia, South Africa and France.
The fair, organized by the Cooperative of Benguela Livestock Breeders (CCGB), included a cattle auction, with about 300 heads, including cattle, goats and sheep, including horses.
