The technician from the national directorate of AGT Tax Administration services), Altino Lourenço, pointed out Friday, in Cuando Cubango, the continued promotion of national production in the agricultural sector as one of the advantages of the New Customs Tariff, which comes into effect into force next April.

The Customs Tariff, 2022 version of the Harmonized System, was approved by Presidential Legislative Decree No. 1/24, of January 3.

Altino Lourenço clarified that the seventh version of the Harmonized Commodity Coding and Description System took place in 2022, hence the Customs Tariff also had to be updated.

He said that the main objective is to promote the increase and development of national production, through increased taxes, restrictions and bans on imports of certain goods, as well as the substitution of imports, aiming to diversify the country’s economy.

According to the technician, aiming to boost national production and promote exports of local content, since it is mostly imported, the new agenda will help in this regard by increasing the rates of products that the country already produces domestically.

For Altino Lourenço, promoting the export of national products will result in an increase in revenue collection for the State, to meet public expenses.

He indicated, at the time, that in the specific case of products already produced locally, such as mineral water, beer, among others, through protective taxes on national/local producers, the New Customs Tariff increased the taxes on the import of these products.

Altino Lourenço informed that the New Customs Tariff foresees an increase in taxes by 55 percent, a 50 percent reduction in import taxes on cars, footwear, raw materials, among other equipment, along with the exemption of 11 products from the basket basic.

He also highlighted the reduction, with the entry of the document, from 10 percent to 2 percent in cell phone fees, depending on their importance for scientific research and beyond, as well as allowing people living in remote areas to have access.

Speaking at the end of the presentation, the head of department of the Customs Services of the Sixth Tax Region (Cuando Cubango and Cunene), Cláudio Sandala, said that the presentation of the New Customs Tariff will take place at the level of the 18 provinces, and in this Sixth Region the process This week, it already covered the Cunene region.

He highlighted that the presentation at Cuando Cubango is of great interest since the province has a land border, mainly with Namibia, through the Katuitui Customs Post, which records daily flows of imports and exports of goods, with destinations in and outside the country.

Cláudio Sandala highlighted that the changes to the Customs Tariff represent an important step towards the modernization and improvement of commercial policies, as they reflect the Government’s commitment, through the promotion of a fairer, more transparent and competitive business environment.

It should be noted that the first version of the Harmonized Commodity Coding and Description System, which is made every five years, was carried out in 1992.

Participating in the meeting, held in a meeting room of the Caixa Social das Forças Armadas Angolanas (FAA), were representatives of the chamber of commerce, loggers’ association, bodies of the Ministry of the Interior, the Finance delegation, academics, among other guests.
