Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of the Angola Central Bank (BNA), Manuel Tiago Dias, acknowledged, on Tuesday (27), in Luanda, that the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools has facilitated the process of modernization and supervision of the Angolan financial system.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 3rd Edition of the conference on banking, called “Angola Banking Conference”, he said that the Central Bank has strengthened its digital supervision system and the automation of monitoring processes through AI tools.

He also said that, within the scope of its Strategic Plan “Libongo 2023/2028”, the BNA is improving its instruments and processes, to improve the management of statistics and communication with the different stakeholders of the sector, reinforcing transparency and trust in the national financial system.

He continued, these measures aim to ensure that technological progress contributes to the stability and integrity of the financial market, in line with the best international practices.

For Manuel Tiago Dias, the adoption of Artificial Intelligence in the financial sector represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen operational efficiency, security and, above all, financial inclusion.

He also believes that the implementation of this technology is also a challenge, requiring robust governance mechanisms, appropriate regulations, technical training and a strong commitment to ethics and the protection of citizens’ data.

“We recognize the AI impact and other emerging techs on the financial system, reaffirming the Central Bank’s commitment to promoting a regulatory environment that is simultaneously safe, competitive and favourable to innovation”, he stressed.

He added that the BNA has actively participated in the working groups of the SADC Committee of Central Bank Governors, where it shares experiences and contributes to the development of regional guidelines on the use of Artificial Intelligence in financial services.

The 3rd Edition of the Angola Banking Conference was promoted by the Magazine “Economia e Mercado” (Economy and Business), in partnership with the consultancy firm PwC, and brought together experts and leaders from the financial sector.
