Africa-Press – Angola. Alberto Kazungo Cabo Verde, a 55-year-old Angolan citizen, was enthroned as the 25th sovereign in the history of the Mbunda tribe, adopting the surname Mwene Mbandu V, replacing Mwene Mbando IV, who died in 2022 due to illness.
Alberto Cabo Verde, the new chief of the Ombala of the Mbunda Kingdom, based in the municipality of Lumbala Nguimbo, Moxico province, thus fills the three-year vacancy.
Chosen by the royal family and 48 other traditional authorities, the new king was presented to his people last August, with the main objectives of maintaining unity and peace. The monarch is considered to possess in-depth knowledge of local culture and to be a convener, qualities that could be crucial for leading a kingdom that also extends to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Zambia.
The Mbunda Kingdom also encompasses territories in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
Speaking at the ceremony, the National Director for Communities and Traditional Power, Albano Cufuna, congratulated the sovereign on his enthronement, reaffirming the call for maintaining unity and harmony.
In turn, the governor of Moxico province, Ernesto Muangala, urged the new Mbunda sovereign to work to defend the kingdom and to revitalize and revive the traditions of this territory.
The presentation ceremony of Mwene Mbandu V was filled with traditional regional dances, folk music, rituals, and offerings of goods to the King.
