Amputee Football World Cup: Morocco and Tanzania surprise in debut

Africa-Press – Angola. The teams from Morocco and Tanzania, African debutants in the competition, managed to qualify for the round of 16, by being in the “ranking” of the third best classified in the group stage of the XVII edition of the World Cup, which began to be played on the 30th of September and ended last Monday, with the involvement of 24 national teams at the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) grounds, in the district of Beykov, in the north of the province of Istanbul.

Morocco occupied third place in Group D and Tanzania in E. Colombia, from Group B, and England (C) were the other third best in the preliminary stage of the competition, in which the teams were divided into six groups of four each. The first two in the series plus the four best third parties qualified for the round of 16.

The opening match of the sporting event, between Turkey and France (3-0) was played on September 30, at Fenerbahçe Stadium, in the city of Istanbul, in a game referring to the first round of the A series.

The Angolan José Candeeiro, from Misto do Huambo, was the top scorer of the first stage of the competition, with five goals scored.

Angola had the best attack and the least beaten defense of the first phase of the championship, with 15 goals scored and one scored, in a stage where 123 were signed.

Despite the number of goals scored, the Angolans were quite wasteful in the three matches of the group stage, due to some lack of effectiveness in the offensive sector.
