AN fails protest vote to the media

Africa-Press – Angola. The Plenary of the National Assembly (AN) “failed”, this Wednesday, UNITA’s request which intended to introduce, in the period before the agenda, the discussion and voting of a protest vote “due to unequal and partial treatment from public media to political parties”.

UNITA’s request received 63 votes in favor, 78 against and two abstentions, during the 3rd Extraordinary Plenary Meeting of the 2nd Legislative Session of the V Legislature, which approved, in general, the Proposed Law on Anti-Doping in Sports.

In this regard, deputy António Paulo, from the MPLA, said that the vote against UNITA’s request is due to the fact that the National Assembly cannot be used as a political weapon against the media.

“The parliamentary group that presented this proposal has other mechanisms, within the framework of political combat, to present this protest, instead of trying to pit the National Assembly against the media”, he stressed.

For you, everyone has followed the work that has been done in the media, highlighting, in this regard, there are public statements to improve this work while respecting fundamental rights, namely freedom of the press and information.

According to the deputy, what is expected from Parliament is to contribute positively to overcoming the issue, instead of each parliamentary group or political party using the sovereign body as a weapon to attack the media.

On the other hand, deputy Mihaela Weeba, from the UNITA parliamentary group, said that public and private media bodies must respect the Constitution and the Press Law.

It understands that the media must provide true, objective, impartial and impartial information.

He repudiated the fact that, last weekend, “we witnessed the live broadcast of an MPLA activity, to the detriment of others carried out by UNITA and the Democratic Bloc, which did not have the same scope in terms of coverage of the bodies of public media”.
