Africa-Press – Angola. The new Angolan ambassador to Cameroon, António Luvualu de Carvalho, began his duties this Tuesday (29) in Yaoundé, after presenting the figurative letters to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, with whom he discussed the bilateral relations.
Ambassador Luvualu de Carvalho, according to the note, has his official residence in Malabo, capital of Equatorial Guinea.
The accreditation ceremony takes place at a time when the authorities of the Republic of Cameroon began to soften the measures adopted to stop the spread of the new coronavirus, which conditioned the entry into office of several diplomatic representatives in the country, during the period of greatest incidence of the outbreak. pandemic.
Ambassador Luvualu de Carvalho’s agenda, to be held in Yaoundé, includes several meetings with government authorities, cultural and sports organizations and business associations, with the aim of listening to them and working towards the ongoing process of relaunching cooperation between the two countries. The Angolan diplomat replaces Ambassador Toko Diakenga Will in the same role, who, since January 2020, has performed the same duties in the Republic of Algeria.
However, the Republics of Angola and Cameroon began their official relations in August 1979, with the first bilateral contacts at the level of government delegations. In March 1987, the first ambassador of Cameroon to Angola was accredited, and in November 1988, Ambassador Ndombele Mbala Bernardo, was accredited as the first ambassador of Angola to Cameroon.
On the occasion of the official visit that the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola, Pedro de Castro Van-Dúnem “Loy”, paid to Cameroon, in March 1990, the two countries signed the legal instruments that guide the cooperation they have until nowadays, namely: – General Agreement on Economic, Commercial, Technical, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation; and the Agreement on the creation of the Angola/Cameroon Bilateral Joint Commission.
On these new dates made available by the Cameroonian authorities for the accreditation of new ambassadors, the credential letters were also handed over to Minister Lejeune Mbella Mbella, the new ambassador of the United States of America to Cameroon, Christopher J. Lamora, a diplomat whose last functions as chargé d’affaires of the US Embassy in Malabo, Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
The ceremony was attended by several officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cameroon, namely the interim secretary general, the head of the Africa Directorate, the interim director of the Communications and Institutional Relations Office, the director general of the State Protocol and the consultant of the of the Minister for Southern African Affairs.
