Africa-Press – Angola. The adoption of a new strategic vision of economic relations between the Republics of Angola and Cuba was the basis of the meeting held, Wednesday (26), in Havana, between representatives of the two countries, specialists in the field of international cooperation.

The Angolan delegation is headed by the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Communities, Domingos Vieira Lopes, and the Cuban delegation, by the Director of Economic and Trade Policy with Africa and the Middle East, Sérgio Espinosa More.

According to the Angolan diplomatic mission in Havana, one of the highlights of the meeting is the preparation of the 15th session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Technical Cooperation between the two countries, which should take place in November in Luanda. At this meeting, priority areas will be defined that should be leveraged, diversified and strengthened in strategic domains. The partnership between the two countries began with technical-military collaboration and changed its appearance in February 1976, with the signing of the first general cooperation agreement in the health and education sectors, a legal instrument that would later come to be lead to the establishment of a bilateral commission between Angola and Cuba.According to the Embassy in Havana, the desire of the two States is to expand and diversify relations,

And it is on the basis of this impulse that the commitments launched at the XIV session of the Technical Commission of the two countries that met in Luanda, in 2019, to accelerate the implementation of the commitments signed through an intergovernmental commission for economic and technical-scientific cooperation. The Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Communities, Domingos Vieira Lopes, is accompanied on this mission to Havana by senior officials from the Auxiliary Services of the President of the Republic, from the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Economy and Planning, Higher Education and Health, as well as technicians from Sonangol and the diplomatic mission in the Cuban capital.

The first cooperation agreement between the two countries dates back to February 1976 and dealt with the health and education sectors. Angola and Cuba share historical political, diplomatic, economic, commercial and cultural ties which, fortunately, the two States and peoples have been able to preserve for several decades on the basis of reciprocity of advantages.
