Africa-Press – Angola. A meeting of the focal points of the bilateral protocol between Angola and Portugal was held in Lisbon, and the harmonization of rules on the “granting of visas arising from Bilateral or Multilateral Agreements and the respective Internal Legislation, applying the most favorable rules” was recommended. .

Based on the resolutions issued from Wednesday’s meeting, in which the parties agreed to hold the 6th Meeting of Focal Points, in Luanda, on a date to be announced, it was also recommended to deepen the reflection on the creation of mechanisms to address the identified challenges.

The parties undertook to regularly assess the effects of the implementation of the Agreement on Mobility between Member States of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries. On the same occasion, Angola and Portugal determined that the two delegations should “make efforts to continue to favor the correct dissemination of the protocol among applicants”.

Angola and Portugal, according to the final communiqué of the meeting, reiterate their commitment to continue evaluating the implementation of the Protocol, through the exchange of information of a statistical nature, the exchange of views on procedures to be applied to ensure its speedy application, and on the dynamization of the role of Focal Points.

The parties reinforced their commitment to work together to continuously improve the mechanisms for granting visas, streamlining and improving the technical and administrative conditions that guide their issuance in order to ensure the facilitation of the movement of their respective nationals in both territories.

The same document reinforces that Angola and Portugal undertake to deepen the reflection on the methods to be applied to publicize the scope of application of the Protocol to the applicants, in addition to the parties having reaffirmed that the Fifth Meeting of the Focal Points took place in an atmosphere of perfect cordiality and clear will to strengthen bilateral cooperation with a view to achieving mutual objectives and benefits, allowing for a better application of the Protocol.

The meeting was co-chaired by Ambassador Luís Almeida Ferraz, Director-General for Consular Affairs and Portuguese Communities at the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and by Ambassador Júlio Belarmino Gomes Maiato, Director of the Europe Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola.

The delegations included Focal Points and senior officials from the ministries with competences relating to the implementation of the Protocol.
