Africa-Press – Angola. The governments of Angola and Portugal signed, this Thursday, in the municipality of Catumbela (Benguela), a commitment on the exchange and guarantee of the articulation of Social Security.
This commitment was signed at the end of the fifteenth meeting of CPLP Ministers of Labor held over three days in Benguela province.
Speaking to the press, the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security of Portugal, Ana Mendes Godinho, said that this agreement means that Angolan workers working in Portugal will benefit from compensation and the transmission of their rights to Angola.
“The same will happen with Portuguese workers working in Angola, when they return to Portugal”, he explained.
According to her, its operationalization will come into force on January 1, 2024.
In his opinion, this protocol aims to guarantee social protection at the service of decent work and the citizens of both countries.
For Ana Mendes Godinho, this was a historic day due to the efforts undertaken by the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).
On her turn, the Minister of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security of Angola, Teresa Rodrigues Dias, said that there is interest between the two States for this fact to become a reality.
“We have some technical work to improve and we are going to do it in this horizon that we understand to be enough time to have our machine operational”, guaranteed the minister.
Teresa Rodrigues Dias expressed her satisfaction that it is not just about mobility with the rights that this entails.
“In this context, we understand that we are going to put our hands to work to comply with the timeframe that we assume here”, he emphasized.
