Angola and South Africa reinforce parliamentary cooperation

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and South Africa made a commitment this Tuesday, in Luanda, to strengthen cooperation in the field of parliamentary administration.

Delegations from the National Assembly of Angola and the South African Parliament met in the Angolan capital, having agreed, among others, to strengthen cooperation in the field of parliamentary administration and exchange of experiences.

The head of the South African parliamentary delegation, Jomo Nyambi, said that the exchange of experience with the National Assembly is due to the fact that the historical ties that unite the two countries are very strong.

“We understood that it was time to visit Angola to learn a little about its parliamentary administration process and the construction of the Palace of the National Assembly, and also implement this project in our country”, he expressed.

He recalled that in December 2020 the South African Parliament caught fire and, from then on, they decided to carry out comparative evaluation visits in several countries, including Angola.

For his part, the secretary-general of the National Assembly, Pedro Agostinho de Neri, said that the South African deputies had a pleasant experience in relation to the level of the Angolan parliamentary organization.

He highlighted the fact that they praised the country for its level of parliamentary organization and its ability to organize events of the magnitude of an OEACP/EU and IPU (Inter-Parliamentary Union).

According to Pedro de Neri, the conversations between the parties focused on the exchange of knowledge, especially “the management instruments we adopted, namely, the regulations for the use of the Palace of the National Assembly and the various spaces that make up it”.

In addition to the new AN Organic Law, which is about to be approved, the dematerialization of the legislative process underway in the Angolan parliament was also announced.

Before, the South African parliamentary delegation was received in audience by the first vice-president of the National Assembly, Américo Cunonoca, to whom they conveyed the purposes of coming to Angola.

Relations between Angola and South Africa are considered excellent, based on bonds of friendship and solidarity that date back to the struggles for self-determination of both countries, whose ultimate objective was the promotion and development and social well-being of their respective peoples.
