Africa-Press – Angola. Angola and Zimbabwe signed, yesterday, in Luanda, ten new legal instruments in the most varied areas, to reinforce cooperation between the two countries.

Among the documents signed by the ministers of Foreign Affairs of Angola, Téte António, and of Foreign Affairs of Zimbabwe, Frederick Shava, the Extradition Agreements between the Republic of Angola and the Republic of Zimbabwe, of Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, stand out. , of Justice, Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Fisheries and Agriculture between the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources of the Republic of Angola and the Ministry of Fisheries of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Among the agreements signed, there are also those on Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Political Consultations, Arts and Cultural Cooperation, Sports, as well as the agreement on Sustainable, Accessible, Functional, Low and Medium Cost Housing and of New Construction Technology, alongside the Cooperation Protocol.

Speaking to the press, at the end of the ministerial meeting of the 2nd Session of the Bilateral Cooperation Commission (CCB), the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, said that the signed instruments reflect the will and the diversity of opportunities that these sectors of both countries offer.

For the successful implementation of the agreements, Téte António recommended the creation of a monitoring committee to inspect the signed instruments.

Téte António also called for a rapid materialization of the commitments made, with a view to being based on work coordinated by ambassadors accredited in the respective capitals and the chambers of commerce and industry of the two countries.

“Challenging us all to quickly materialize the commitments made, which must be based on coordination work led by our ambassadors accredited in the respective capitals and in the Chambers of Commerce and Industry”, he said.

Téte António believes it is opportune to elevate the Cooperation Commission between the Republic of Angola and the Republic of Zimbabwe to the level of a Bi-National Commission to better define the defined strategies and objectives. The draft of this proposal, according to the Angolan minister, must be prepared by November 30th of this year.

The Angolan government official promised to continue working in those sectors that were not the subject of signed agreements, so that cooperation memoranda can be considered and signed soon.

“Today we have signed only ten legal instruments, which are not few, considering the areas they cover. But we are also committed to continuing to work in those sectors that have not been the subject of signing agreements so that they can be considered and signed in the near future” , he stressed.

Angola and Zimbabwe reunited 32 years later. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, said that yesterday’s meeting marks the strengthening of ties of friendship and solidarity between the two peoples, having highlighted that they need to be translated into social, economic, cultural and technical relations that express greater proximity “We remember that the first and only session of the Joint Bilateral Commission was held in the distant year of 1992, having therefore passed around 32 years. We are, however, confident that this meeting will be an excellent opportunity for us to take firm steps in the strengthening our bonds of friendship and solidarity between our two countries and peoples”, he said.

Signed agreements represent a unique opportunity

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Frederick Shava, said that the agreements signed yesterday in Luanda represent a “unique” opportunity to strengthen the paths to economic and social development for both countries.

Frederick Shava referred to the historical ties that unite the two countries, highlighting Angola’s support in the struggle for liberation from

Zimbabwe against the racist regime of Ian Smith. Therefore, he defended the continuity of this union more solidly.

Zimbabwe’s head of diplomacy said that the two countries intend to increasingly strengthen relations in the political and diplomatic domain, sectors in which the two countries have taken significant steps.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe informed that Angola and Zimbabwe have supported each other in various international forums, in which they have taken common positions in promoting peace and security, as well as in policies aimed at the industrialization of the region.

Frederick Shava praised the relevant role of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, as a facilitator and mediator of the conflict between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Rwanda, as well as his role as Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa.

According to the Zimbabwean minister, the ties of solidarity and friendship between the two peoples must be increasingly strengthened, within the scope of the existing political relations between the two countries.

Frederick Shava said that educational and sporting exchanges have been strengthening relations between Zimbabwe and Angola on a bilateral basis.
