Africa-Press – Angola. Angola took over the presidency of the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council , a strategic body for continental peace and security.
According to a statement, Angola’s appointment to lead the AU body took place during a Council meeting dedicated to briefing sessions for the presidents of the AU member states in June and August 2025.
Speaking on behalf of Angola, Ambassador Miguel Bembe, the country’s permanent representative to the AU, said that the event occurred at the same time that Angola holds the organization’s rotating presidency.
“In fact, when consulting the archives, I do not recall a similar occurrence in the history of the continental organization,” said Ambassador Miguel Bembe.
The diplomat assured that Angola assumes these added responsibilities with a sense of duty and deep respect and is fully prepared to contribute to advancing the Common Continental Agenda in order to definitively achieve peace and stability on the continent and promote a prosperous Africa firmly committed to development and integration processes.
Miguel Bembe highlighted the AU Peace and Security Council’s central role in promoting peace, security, and stability on the continent, as well as its role as a permanent decision-making body for conflict prevention, management, and resolution, embodying the collective will of member states.
