Africa-Press – Angola. Angola begins the defence of the COSAFA Cup title in group B, in a competition that will take place between June 4th and 15th, in Bloemfontein, South Africa, according to the draw held on Wednesday, in the South African city of Mangaung.

The National Team, also known as Palancas Negras (Sable Antelopes), will face Lesotho again, just as it happened in the 2024 edition, where they won 3-1, in group C.

Angola will also face Namibia, an opponent with whom they drew 0-0 in the group stage of the previous tournament and beat 5-0 in the final.

Malawi, who were absent from the previous competition, is also part of the group B, with Angola.

Angola has four titles (1999, 2001, 2004 and 2024), and is currently the fourth most successful country in this competition in the southern region.

South Africa, Mozambique, Mauritania and Zimbabwe make up Group A, while Group C includes Morocco, Madagascar and Eswatini, and Zambia, Comoros Islands and Botswana are in Group D.

It is worth noting that Zambia with seven trophies (1997, 1998, 2006, 2013, 2019, 2022 and 2023), Zimbabwe six (2000, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2017 and 2018) and South Africa with five (2002, 2007, 2008, 2016 and 2021), lead the list of winners of this competition.

Meanwhile, national coach Pedro Gonçalves will announce today, in Luanda, the pre-list of players called up for the Cosafa Cup.
