Africa-Press – Angola. Angola completed, this Tuesday (21), two years since the first two cases of infection by Covid-19 were confirmed. The announcement of the first two cases of Covid-19 was made, on March 21, 2020, by the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, at the Aníbal de Melo Press Center (CIAM).

The infected were male nationals, aged between 36 and 38, who had just returned to Luanda from Portugal on the 17th and 18th of March of that year.

As of March 21, 2020, Angola was officially among the countries that lived with the Sar-Cov-2 virus, at a time when the world already had more than 20 thousand deaths and 400 thousand infected, since it was detected in December 2019 in the city of Wuhan, China.

The Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, expressed, yesterday, in Luanda, a feeling of regret for the families who have lost their loved ones due to Covid-19, since the first two cases were confirmed.

Franco Mufinda, who was taking stock of the pandemic in the last 24 hours, thanked all the people involved, directly and indirectly, in the fight against the pandemic. “I want to express our feelings of gratitude,” he expressed.

Over the 24 months, stressed the Secretary of State, many lessons were learned, some as opportunities and others as threats that had an impact on various domains of national life, as well as on families.

Framework of health technicians

The Secretary of State for Public Health considered that the two years of the pandemic were challenging for the country, as, during this time, it was possible to build new hospitals, laboratories and the framework of 25,000 health professionals.

Franco Mufinda referred to the two years of the pandemic, when he spoke of the epidemiological situation in the last 24 hours, during which 12 new cases were recorded and the recovery of 35 people. For the 21st day in a row, the country has not reported deaths from Covid-19.

New infections were recorded in Luanda (11) and Cabinda (1). The infected are aged between 6 months and 56 years, 11 males and one female. Regarding recoveries, 30 were registered in Luanda, four in Zaire and one in Cabinda.

The Molecular Biology Laboratory processed, in the last 24 hours, 7,308 samples, of which 12 were positive. Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, 1,489,841 samples have been processed, of which 99,027 have tested positive.

With these data, the country has 99,027 confirmed cases, of which 1,900 resulted in deaths, 97,013 recovered and 114 were active. Of the active, two are moderate, the same number with mild symptoms and 110 asymptomatic.

In Covid-19 treatment centers across the country, four patients are hospitalized. Four citizens are in institutional quarantine and 110 are in home isolation.

The Integrated Center for Public Security (CISP) registered 29 calls yesterday, all related to requests for information about Covid-19. In the last 24 hours, the mental health and psychosocial intervention team provided psychological support to 27 citizens by telephone.

Regarding vaccination, Franco Mufinda said that, since the beginning of the process, in March last year, 17,398,131 people were immunized. Of this number, 5,954,438 with full doses and the rest with just one dose.
