Angola Expresses Solidarity with CAR over Death of 29 Students

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s ambassador to the Central African Republic, Vicente Muanda, on Thursday in Bangui expressed his condolences to the Central African Prime Minister, Félix Moloua, for the death of 29 students in the tragic incident that took place on June 25 at the Barthélémy Boganda High School.

According to a press release , The diplomat, who lives in Brazzaville, conveyed the pain and solidarity of the Angolan people at this time of national mourning in the Central African Republic (CAR), underlining Angola’s commitment to peace, stability and regional cooperation.

Prime Minister Félix Moloua thanked the Angolan state for its gesture of solidarity, highlighting Angola’s stance as a partner attentive to the future and well-being of the Central African people.

“Angola’s role in peace efforts in the CAR is unquestionable. Your visit symbolises warmth, friendship and the desire to strengthen our relations,” he said.

During the meeting, opportunities to revitalize and deepen bilateral cooperation were discussed, with emphasis on the agreements signed between the two countries and the need to set up a Joint Angola-RCA Bilateral Commission to facilitate the monitoring and implementation of the protocols.

The Prime Minister said that the country was preparing to hold local and municipal elections, an important step towards consolidating democracy and political stability.

He also asked for Angola’s support in attracting investors and promoting business events in Bangui, including business forums and proposed the creation of an Angola-RCA Chamber of Commerce, as an instrument for boosting economic diplomacy between the two countries.

Resumption of TAAG flights and regional connectivity

Moloua lamented the cancellation of TAAG – Angolan Airlines flights on the Luanda/Brazzaville/Douala/Bangui route, stressing the negative impact of the suspension for a landlocked country.

He therefore emphasized the importance of regular air links to facilitate commercial and social exchange.

Regarding TAAG’s return to Bangui, the Angolan diplomat said that there was some discrimination regarding the granting of the 5th freedom, since there are airlines outside the African continent that have more connectivity than African airlines.

He suggested that the issue of 5th freedom for TAAG-Angola Airlines flights be reviewed with the CAR Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and the Aeronautical Authority of the Central African Republic.

Cooperation with solid foundations

Relations between Angola and the Central African Republic have been strengthened over the years. Since 2010, the two countries have had cooperation agreements in the economic, commercial, technical, scientific and cultural areas. In 2014, Angola provided financial support to the CAR during its political transition.

In 2021, Presidents João Lourenço and Faustin-Archange Touadéra met in Luanda to update the protocols and relaunch the legal cooperation instruments, reaffirming the bilateral commitment to development and peace on the African continent.
