Africa-Press – Angola. The National Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Team won 53 medals in the African Championship of the sport, which took place from May 27th to June 1st, in Windhoek, Namibia.

There are 21 gold, 20 silver and 12 bronze medals, in the youth, junior and senior categories.

In a press release from the National MMA Federation, Monday, the achievement is a reflection of the talent, dedication and fighting spirit of the athletes, who once again raised the name of Angola in the African sporting scene.

“FAMMA is extremely proud of the fighters and the continuous effort to achieve excellence in MMA”, the note reads.

According to the report, with this victory, Angola not only renews the title of African junior champion, won in 2023, but also establishes a new milestone in national sport, inspiring future generations.

Of the medals achieved, at least nine were won by Huilano athletes, with emphasis on three gold medals for Teresa Dias, in the 61 kg, Indira Santana in the 53 kg and Luhinga João, in the 52.2 kg.

For the final of the African MMA Championship, 25 athletes from the National Team were present, in the different categories.

In the event, seven Angolan athletes were disqualified, one for having been diagnosed with malaria and others for delays in sending medical exams to the organization of the championship.

The 7th edition of the African MMA Championship saw the participation of 10 countries, namely Angola, Egypt, Namibia, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, South Africa and Ghana.
