Africa-Press – Angola. Angola beat Tanzania 2-1 this Tuesday, qualifying for the quarter-finals of the African Football Championship (CAN) for amputees, taking place in Cairo, Egypt.
In this match on the 2nd round of the continental event, the National Team trailed at half-time, by 0-1, with a goal from France, in the 16th minute, at the Petrol Sport Stadium.
In the last 25 minutes of the 50 regulation game, Augusto Baptista “Cheto”’s men tried to confirm their favoritism in the race to revalidate the title won in 2019, in the province of Benguela (Angola).
José Candeeiro started the turnaround of the match with a goal in the 29th minute, followed by Pedro Vicente’s goal in the 36th minute.
This was Pedro Vicente’s second accurate shot in the competition, after having also scored in the 4-0 debut victory over Sierra Leone.
For the quarter-finals, Angola will face Algeria on Thursday (time to be determined) at the same stadium in Cairo, aiming for the semi-finals.
Instead of three games as planned in the initial phase, the national team only played two due to Rwanda’s withdrawal, the same happening with the teams in group A (Cameroon withdrew) and B (Senegal).
Group C, made up of Ghana, Kenya, Gambia and Algeria, is the only one that did not withdraw.
Qualified teams for the quarter-finals:
Group A – Egypt and Nigeria
Group B – Morocco and Liberia
Group C – Ghana and Algeria
Group D – Angola and Tanzania
