Africa-Press – Angola. Angola is part of the debates on issues related to the evolution of the political, security and humanitarian situation in the Great Lakes Region and the role of parliaments in conflict resolution, whose Plenary Assembly runs until Friday in Nairobi (Kenya).

For this event, according to a note from the Embassy of Angola in the Republic of Kenya, a parliamentary delegation headed by Suzana Augusta de Melo, 2nd vice-president of the National Assembly, went to Nairobi on Monday to participate in the 12th Ordinary Session of the Plenary Assembly of the Parliamentary Forum of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-CIRGL).

At the same meeting, the approval of resolutions on Member States with political, security and humanitarian challenges will be discussed, as well as the Plan of Action and Budget of the CIRGL Parliamentary Forum for 2022 and the Strategic Plan for the period 2022-2026.

On Saturday and Sunday, parliamentarians participated in parallel meetings that discussed matters foreseen for the Agenda of the 12th Session of the CIRGL Parliamentary Forum, highlighting the issues of specific committees, namely, the joint statutory meeting of the Commission on Women, Children and Vulnerable Persons; the meeting of the Committee on Social and Humanitarian Issues and; yesterday, there was the conference of the presidents of the parliaments of the member states.

One of the topics addressed was the “role of parliaments in resolving conflicts in the Great Lakes Region”, with plenary sessions scheduled for today and tomorrow.

The Angolan parliamentary delegation includes the 2nd vice-president of the National Assembly, Suzana Augusta de Melo, deputies Sérgio Leonardo Vaz, Agostinho dos Santos Van-Dúnem, Maria Isabel Malunga Mutunda, Celso Torres Capingala and parliamentary officials Isaura Tchissola Mateus Vicente and Lázaro Valentine Vaz Vicente.

The Parliamentary Forum of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region is an inter-parliamentary organization that brings together national parliaments from the 12 member states of the CIRGL, namely Angola, Burundi, CAR, Congo, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Sudan South, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia.
