Africa-Press – Angola. Angola made history at the African Fencing Championships that ended Thursday in Luanda, winning its first international medals since the creation of the fencing federation in the country ten years ago.

The national team’s participation in the event, which was organized by Angola for the first time, ended with four bronze medals on the podium, in a competition for cadets and juniors, in sword, foil and sabre for men and women.

The Angolan team, made up of athletes Daniel Culica, Eduany David and Reginaldo Lima, triumphed in the sabre category in the men’s cadet class.

In the women’s category, also in the sabre specialty, the medal was won by the team of Sara Pereira, Bernarda Calunga and Guivalda Contreira, the same team that achieved the feat in the sword.

Angolan António Pedro won the bronze medal in the individual junior foil specialty.

Egypt was dominant in the junior division after winning 25 medals, 11 gold, seven silver and seven bronze. In cadets it was equally imperial with ten gold, two silver and the same number of bronze, 14 total.

Tunisia was second overall, winning one gold, two silver and two bronze medals in juniors (5) and six gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze medals in cadets (27).
