Angola prepares CIRGL Extraordinary Summit

Africa-Press – Angola. The preparation of the Extraordinary Summit of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), scheduled for Saturday (3), brought together Tuesday, in Luanda, the head of Angolan diplomacy, Téte António, and ambassadors of countries assigned to this Regional Mechanism.

In addition to taking stock of the tasks leading up to the summit and preparing his agenda, Téte António analyzed with his interlocutors from Zambia, Congo, DRC, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda and representatives from Tanzania and Sudan, issues of peace and security in the region.

The summit is expected to be attended by Heads of State and Government, or their representatives, as well as entities linked to the African Union Commission, the United Nations Secretariat, the CIRGL, the Economic Community of Central African States ( ECCAS), and the East African Community (EAC).

The CIRGL has become an important political and diplomatic forum, with the perspective of becoming a platform for strengthening peace and stability in the sub-region.

Created in 1994, following the political and military conflicts that marked the Great Lakes region in the early 1990s, the organization brings together Angola, Burundi, the Central African and Democratic Republics of Congo, as well as Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.
