Africa-Press – Angola. Angola will defend its candidacies for the position of vice-president of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa and member of the Executive Board of UN Tourism at a ceremony taking place on Wednesday in Abuja, with a view to promoting regional cooperation and integration.
In addition to this intention, the country is also applying to host the 69th meeting of the UN Regional Commission on Tourism for Africa, in 2026, and the Online Training Committee for Tourism.
These candidacies will be defended by the Minister of Tourism, Márcio Daniel, during the 68th Meeting of the UN Regional Commission on Tourism for Africa (CAF), taking place from 11 to 13 of this month, in Nigeria, according to a note this Tuesday.
According to the document, this event aims to address the strategic vision for tourism in Africa, explore emerging trends and provide a collaborative environment to promote the role of tourism in sustainable development.
By applying to occupy positions in the leadership of UN Tourism, Angola intends to have greater representation in the organization, increase its influence in the formulation of policies on tourism and promote regional cooperation and integration, as well as stimulate technical cooperation between African countries and facilitate the sharing of good practices and knowledge, the note said.
He also adds that Angola”s presence in this regional forum strengths the active role that the country intends to play in building a more resilient, inclusive African agenda for tourism in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The exchange of experiences, the strengthening of partnerships and the capture of investments that result from these meetings are fundamental for the growth of national tourism.
During the meeting, strategies to boost social impact and education in tourism through innovation, artificial intelligence and creative industries in Africa will be discussed.
