Africa-Press – Angola. Angola faces Egypt on Friday, with the aim of qualifying, for the first time in 16 years, for the final of the African Futsal Championship.

The game will be played at 5 pm, at the Salle Prince Moulay Abdellah Pavilion, in Rabat, Morocco.

In history, the national team only reached the semi-finals of this continental competition of nations, in the 2020 edition, also held in Morocco, where they won the bronze medal, with a 2-0 victory over Libya.

The confrontation between the two countries recorded two defeats for Angola (4-2, in 2016, and 3-0, in 2020) and a draw (2-2, in 2008), and overall they scored four goals and conceded nine.

The Angolan team needs, at the very least, to finish among the top three in the competition to guarantee direct qualification for the World Championship, to be played from September 14th to October 6th this year, in Uzbekistan.

In the opening round, the National Team lost to hosts Morocco 5-2, beat their counterpart Zambia (8-5) in the 2nd round of group A and in the 3rd they inflicted a historic defeat on Ghana (11-3).

Angola finished the initial phase in 2nd place in the standings, with six points, 21 goals scored and 13 conceded and a positive balance of eight goals.

Chico, who plays for GD Clínica Sagrada Esperança, was the national team’s top scorer in the initial phase, with six goals, followed by Hélber, from Sport Clube Maculusso (4 goals) and Braúlio, from Grupo Desportivo RNT (3).

Egypt achieved full success in group B, with nine points, by beating Libya 4-0, Mauritania (6-7) and Namibia (10-3), having scored 21 goals and conceded nine.

This is Angola’s fourth participation in an event of its kind, after its presence in the editions of Libya 2008, South Africa (2016) and Morocco (2020). In the latter, he won the bronze medal (third place).

In the other semi-final, Morocco, defending champion, will face Libya, at 8pm, in the same hall.

Egypt is the country with the most titles won (three), followed by Morocco (two) and Libya (one).
