Speaking at the International Conference on the Crimes of Colonialism in Africa, in his capacity as president of the Council of the African Union, the minister affirmed that the conference concretizes Decision 903 of the Assembly of the African Union, which approved the proposal of the Algerian President, an international march of crimes against humanity colonialism.
The Angolan leader conveyed the recognition of the President of the Republic and the African Union, João Lourenço, for holding the forum, considered essential in the search for just solutions for Africans and Afro-descendants.
The meeting – which is held under the theme “Towards the Reparation of Historical Injustices through the Criminalization of Colonialism” – brings together ministers, legal experts, academics, historians and representatives of continental and international organizations.
The aim is to identify effective mechanisms for the recognition, redress and compensation of victims of historical injustices.
The conference represents a political and moral framework for the continent, bringing together different African and diaspora voices in building a common position on reparations and the recognition of the damage caused by colonialism.
It also highlights the strengthening of cooperation between Africa and the Caribbean, under the slogan “Building Caribbean-Africa Bridges”, transforming past injustices into opportunities for solidarity, development and restorative justice.
