Angola wants reciprocal cooperation with the US

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan authorities reaffirmed Friday, their interest in deepening political-diplomatic and cooperation relations with the United States of America, based on mutual respect and reciprocity of advantages.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, at a ceremony celebrating 30 years of relations between the two countries, Angola will continue to make efforts to strengthen (…) cooperation with the United States of America (…) for the benefit of both countries and peoples.

He reported that the level of exchanges of visits, consultations and cooperation relations in the various domains demonstrates the excellence of relations between the two countries, aiming for more visits at the level of Heads of States.

He stressed that the two countries have become a strategic partner for bilateral and multilateral cooperation, with the signing of the “memorandum of understanding for bilateral dialogue”, on 8 July 2010, with the aim of promoting and increasing political-diplomatic cooperation, economic and commercial, technical-scientific, security and cultural.

He referred that the two countries share blood ties, with the arrival of African slaves in American territory in 1619, many of whom came from Angola.

Minister Téte António also alluded to the celebrations, in Washington, of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first 20 Angolan slaves in the US, who have visited the country in recent years.

The two countries officially established diplomatic relations on May 19, 1993.
