Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan ambassador to Timor-Leste, José Lemos, visited the national delegation on Sunday and motivated the group to win medals at the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) Games, which are taking place in the city of Dili, Timor-Leste.
During the visit, at the hotel where the delegation is staying, the diplomat acknowledged the fatigue given the 18-hour trip, but appealed to the fight and spirit of sacrifice to reach the podium in the various modalities.
For the first Angolan ambassador to this Southeast Asian country, Angola”s participation, in particular, demonstrates the historic cooperation between the two states.
Outside the sports field, José Lemos said that the event will also serve to exchange experiences in the field of culture.
He said that on Sunday night a food fair of the CPLP countries will be held at the Palace of the Republic of East Timor, where Angola will present its gastronomy.
José Lemos was appointed in May 2024, becoming the first diplomat accredited in Timor, but his stay in Timorese territory only took place last May, with the inauguration of the official embassy headquarters in Dili.
For this edition there are the modalities of football, chess, tennis, karate, taekwondo, beach volleyball, 3×3 basketball, athletics and adapted athletics.
Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, the host Timor-Leste and Portugal, the latter being the defending champion, participate in the event.
The Games take place in seven infrastructures, namely, the Dili Municipal Stadium, with a capacity for 5000 spectators, the Becora stadium, the Dili gymnasium, the GDD basketball pavilion, the Liceu tennis court, the Dili convention center and the Licidere beach volleyball court.
