Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan diplomat Domingos de Almeida da Silva Coelho was accredited on Monday by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, as Angola’s ambassador plenipotentiary to that country.

According to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the official ceremony for the presentation of the Letters of Credence took place at the Presidential Palace in Dodoma.

It adds that this act marks the beginning of the new Angolan diplomatic representative’s duties in that country.

During the ceremony, President Samia Suluhu Hassan highlighted Angola’s role in strengthening bilateral relations and expressed the Tanzanian government’s willingness to deepen cooperation in areas of common interest, such as diplomacy, economy, energy, tourism, training and other strategic areas.

The occasion served for Ambassador Domingos de Almeida da Silva Coelho to convey to the Tanzanian Head of State the warm greetings of Angolan President João Lourenço, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening the historic friendship and bilateral partnership between Angola and Tanzania.

The accreditation of the new ambassador is a significant step in deepening political, diplomatic and cooperation ties between Angola and Tanzania, a sister nation with which Angola shares a long history of solidarity and collaboration on the African continent.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed her deep honour and satisfaction with the gesture of the President of Angola in awarding the medal (Order of Agostinho Neto) to the former President of that country, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, father of the Tanzanian nation, on the occasion of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan stressed that this distinction represents a tribute to Nyerere’s historic role in the national liberation struggle, as well as a gesture of high regard reflected in the ties of friendship between Angola and Tanzania.
