Africa-Press – Angola. Children from the Angolan community residing in Texas, USA, were honored with the first children’s literary work by Writer Engrácia Matias.

The event, which took place this Saturday (21), took place in the city of Katy, in the west metropolitan area of Houston, Texas.

When presenting the work, the Writer and also Journalist recalled that this philanthropic action aims to cultivate love for the Motherland in Angolan children residing in the diaspora.

In Declarations, he stressed the need for institutions in good faith to support Writers who dedicate themselves to Children’s Literature for the good of the development of Angolan children.

The first book presentation session in Houston, he said, took place on January 14 at the Panafrican Library (SAID).

The 25-page book, entitled “The little zebra that lost its stripes” portrays the despair of a little zebra that supposedly lost the stripes on its skin while playing with elephants in a mudflat.

However, the story has a happy ending after the little zebra, obeying her mother’s advice, goes to wash herself in the stream and has her stripes revealed.

The story also emphasizes the preponderant role of a mother in the education of her children.

Engrácia Matias made it known that the activity comes within the scope of a project aimed at encouraging reading and love for the Motherland carried out by the newly created Association of Journalists for the Production of Children’s Literature (AJPLI).

The literary work, illustrated by Altino Chindele, is published by Editora Angolana Ésobrenós. Supporting the organization of the two sessions was the Consulate General of Angola in Houston, Sonangol-USA, the Association of Angolans in Texas (N’JANGO) the Panafrican Library (SAiD) and the restaurant serving typical Angolan dishes in Houston, Luanda Lounge.

This first edition of the children’s book, with a print run of 1000 copies, was financed by Fundação Brilhante da ENDIAMA and by the company VMD – Participações e Investimentos.

The Association of Journalists who produce children’s literature aims to produce and distribute books free of charge to Angolan children inside and outside the country, helping them not only to develop the habit of reading but also to love the country.

Led by journalist Maria de Lourdes from the Public Television of Angola (TPA), the association created at the end of 2022 aims to bring together professionals identified with the defense of the right of the child to grow up well educated.
