Africa-Press – Angola. José do Amaral, the president of the Angolan Handball Federation (FAAND), has considered Angola’s 10th place finish in the Senior Women’s World Championship in Germany and the Netherlands to be a positive outcome.

He noted that the team achieved the outlined goal of improving upon their 15th place finish in the previous edition and ranking among the top 10 teams out of 31 participants.

Amaral said that, in addition to the results obtained, it is important to acknowledge that Angola finished ahead of countries considered world leaders, including Switzerland, Sweden, Egypt, South Korea, China, and Spain.

“We are pleased with the support from the supervising ministry, particularly Minister Rui Falcão. We understand that some situations depend on other sectors,” he stressed.

The federation leader revealed that there is a four- to five-month debt with the Spanish coach, Carlos Viver, as well as a 40 percent debt with the athletes, after 60 percent was paid throughout the process that culminated in their participation in the World Championship.

José do Amaral assured that these amounts will be paid as soon as the federation receives the other part of the amounts foreseen in the budget for the event, at a time when the idea is to propose the renewal of the coach’s contract.
