Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan president João Lourenço arrived in Brazil on Thursday for a state visit to strengthen bilateral cooperation, the highlight of which will be the meeting the following day with his counterpart Luís Inácio Lula da Silva.

The trip to Brasilia, at the invitation of Lula da Silva, marks the strengthening of cooperation and represents a gesture of reciprocity for the Brazilian President’s visit to Angola in August 2023.

The two statesmen are expected to analyze the current state of bilateral cooperation with a focus on key areas for development, with some emphasis on the agricultural sector.

Agreements are expected to be signed, as well as visit to Itamaraty Palace, headquarters of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he will attend a lunch in honor of his visit, hosted by his counterpart Lula da Silva.

The Angolan President is also scheduled to meet with a representative group of the Brazilian business community.

The first events of the visit are scheduled for Thursday.

Angola is one of Brazil’s main trading partners in Africa, with exports from this South American country reaching 493 million US dollars in 2024, with emphasis on products such as frozen beef, pork and poultry (30%) and sugar (23%), while imports are made up of crude oil (94%) and oil by-products (6.2%).

Angola and Brazil expanded their partnership two years ago with the signing of seven cooperation agreements and technical memoranda in the areas of agriculture, tourism, health, education, human resources, support for small and medium-sized enterprises and exports, during the Brazilian president’s visit to the country in August 2023.

In November 2024, during the Angola-Brazil Agri-Business Forum held in Luanda, the two countries initialed agreements aimed at strengthening partnerships in agriculture, especially the letter of intent to promote trade and agro-livestock investments.

The government has prioritized programs in the area of agriculture to secure food security and boost the country’s economic growth, and Brazil appears to be an ideal partner, since it has faced similar challenges.

Delegations from the South American country, including members of the business community, have been intensifying contacts with the Angolan authorities, with a view to boosting areas such as agriculture and livestock, as well as promoting interaction between the private sectors on both sides, given the need for investment in the country.

Recently, Brazil’s minister of Agriculture and Farming, Carlos Fávaro, reaffirmed the interest of his country’s government in supporting Angola in guaranteeing autonomy in agricultural production, for food self-sufficiency.

The minister led a delegation from his country’s agribusiness sector made up of around 30 businesspeople, which, in addition to Luanda, made technical visits to the provinces of Malanje and Cuanza-Norte with representatives of the Angolan private sector to discuss forms of financing.
