Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço on Friday in Luanda urged prosecutors and other judicial bodies to pay more attention and act decisively against cryptocurrency mining and other criminal practices in the country.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of nine new deputy public prosecutors, the head of state expressed concern over the recent increase in cases of crimes committed by nationals and foreigners.
Among the criminal acts, João Lourenço cited the new type of crime that he said was “not common in our society,” in this case cryptocurrency mining, as well as the increase in cases of fuel smuggling, vandalism, violent crime, homicide, rape of minors and domestic violence.
“Cryptocurrency mining is a crime that is growing and deserves the attention and firmness of the judicial authorities so that it doesn’t spread,” warned the head of the executive branch.
João Lourenço recommended that the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PGR) prepare cases quickly so that they can be sent to the courts.
“We expect them to be as committed as possible to expedite the cases, so that they don’t stay too long at the PGR and are sent to the competent courts within a reasonable time,” said Lourenço.
The Head of State expressed his confidence and called for justice to make the criminals pay for the evils they have committed.
He wished the newly sworn-in officials success in their future duties.
