Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan President João Lourenço received on Friday in Luanda, a message from his Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) counterpart, Félix Tshisekedi, regarding the expansion and strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
The message was delivered by Jacques Tshisekedi Tshibanda, special envoy of the DRC president.
The special envoy told the press that the message emphasizes the importance of expanding and strengthening cooperation between the two countries. Although the two countries maintain solid cooperative relations, “it is clear that these are predominantly focused on security matters.”
“We were tasked with expressing, on behalf of President Tshisekedi, our desire to reverse this situation,” said Tshibanda. He noted that they encountered an extremely receptive stance from President Lourenço, given that Angola has long expressed the same desire to change this paradigm.
According to the diplomat, although the two countries have developed significant trade relations, the level of trade is still below what is desirable and requires a change. He hopes this intention will materialize promptly in concrete actions.
Tshibanda stated that sectors linked to trade and economic activity will be encouraged to take action, as these sectors can contribute to balancing the currently very unfavorable trade balance between the two countries.
“We now intend to transform the abundant informal trade that already exists into formalized commercial relations. This is our pressing need, and fortunately, we have found President João Lourenço to be very willing, confirming that Angola has long awaited the realization of this goal,” he concluded.
