Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço visited the exhibition “Autism without Mask” at the Science Center of Luanda, which consists of 47 pictures, painted by autistic children, and watched the movie “Iris”.
The activity is part of the program for the World Autism Awareness Day celebrated on April 2.
Owned by the social platform Kuena, the exhibition included political, cultural and other personalities, including the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, who was present at the event.
It aimed to promote a closer bond between mothers and children with autism through painting, in which each child expresses their feelings and emotions on their “own face”, as if it were a blank canvas. Photography was used to create the paintings.
The short film “Iris: Diving into the World of Autistic People” tells the story of Iris, a 35-year-old woman who faces family and social challenges after her son Nassor is diagnosed with autism, leading her to seek solutions and create a support center for children with autism.
Outcast by society, Iris joins forces with Ndayola in search of solutions, and together they create a counseling center to support children with autism and other pathologies.
The film highlights the journey of Iris, a courageous woman played by Delma Francisco, as she faces family and social challenges.
It explores the importance of understanding and supporting people with autism and their families, and is an opportunity for mothers and health professionals to get involved and learn more about the world of autism.
Sharing humanism
The Head of State shared humanism and empathy, on a journey in which the world stops to understand the other and accept the different.
The President of the Republic and the First Lady joined the cause that is mobilizing more and more solidarity and understanding around the world, at the same time as science and knowledge are becoming stronger in understanding the phenomenon of autism, which, according to statistics from the World Health Organization, affects 1 in 160 children.
In a very relaxed atmosphere, João Lourenço allowed himself to be painted by two children with different levels of Autism Spectrum Disorder (a boy and a girl), spoke to both of them and captured the moment in unforgettable photographs.
Support
At the end of the event, the Health minister, Silvia Lutucuta, told the press that the government has provided full support to people with various disorders, within the framework of a plan approved at the national level.
World Autism Awareness Day is celebrated on April 2. The date was established by the United Nations in 2007 to raise awareness of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and to combat prejudice.
