Africa-Press – Angola. More than one hundred million kwanzas is the damage that the Angolan State has suffered this year due to tax evasion by economic operators, with emphasis on importers.
The fact was revealed, Tuesday, to the press, in Ndalatando, capital of the province of Cuanza Norte, by the specialist of the General Tax Administration (AGT), Noémia Cassova, regarding the workshop on “Procedural Processing in the Preparatory Instruction”, promoted by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), within the framework of the 3rd Review Meeting of the North Judicial Region.
According to Noémia Cassova, the infractions, mostly, of the customs forum, are embodied in the breaking of seals of containers before the inspection of the technicians of the AGT and of the Fiscal Police, as well as the smuggling of fuel.
He pointed out tax fraud involving industrial and labor income tax (IRT) as other tax evasion offenses that have harmed the Angolan State.
In this regard, Noémia Cassova informed that 120 processes that indicate the existence of economic crimes are being investigated by the Directorate of Anti-Fraud Services of the AGT, which will later be reported to the Public Ministry for the criminal responsibility of the offenders.
He explained that crimes of a tax nature harm public revenue and make it impossible to carry out projects aimed at meeting the needs of the population.
The AGT is a fundamental body in the exercise of the function of preparatory instruction of criminal proceedings of a tax nature, as it is the institution with technical and administrative components to assess the value and assess the economic damage caused to the State by offenders.
During the workshop, the specialist spoke on the theme “Performance of the General Tax Administration in the preparatory instruction of criminal proceedings”.
The event also discussed topics such as – “The relationship between the Public Prosecutor’s Office, criminal investigation bodies and the guarantee judge: effective direction of the preparatory instruction”, “The role of the guarantee judge in the preparatory instruction”, “The role of the Fiscal Police in the criminal proceedings”, “Challenges of criminal instruction in the light of the new model of preparatory instruction”.
Public prosecutors and military magistrates participated in the workshop, as well as heads of the Criminal Investigation Service of the provinces in the Northern Judicial Region, senior officials and guests.
The provinces of Malanje, Zaíre, Uíge and Cuanza Norte form part of the Northern Judicial Region.
