Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan national swimming team on Sunday won the bronze medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the African Youth Games (AYG), with a time of 4:41.69, in the Alvalade pool, in Luanda.

Luanda – The Angolan national swimming team on Sunday won the bronze medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the African Youth Games (AYG), with a time of 4:41.69, in the Alvalade pool, in Luanda.

It is the first medal in this modality in the continental competition, won by the quartet made up of Santiago Guimarães, Oleksander Zhukov, Mário Baptista and Carlos Fernandes, after four finals during the day.

The gold medal in the relay was won by the South African team, made up of Matthew Goller, Kellen Jones, Nicholas Pretorius and Kyle Snyders, who clocked 8:03.16.

Algeria took silver, with its swimmers Achouri Amine, Charifi Mohamed, Tayed Amene and Torki Salaheddine reaching a mark of 8:22.05.

In the 400 meter freestyle, Angolan Santiago Guimarães finished sixth, in the 200 meter breaststroke his compatriot Kenenise Vongo came in eighth place, and in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay the country finished in fifth place.

South Africa leads the swimming tournament, with 39 medals, 21 gold, 13 silver and five bronze, followed by Algeria with 13 (2 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze) and Tunisia with 10 (2 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze).
