Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Artur Almeida e Silva took over, this Tuesday, in Lisbon (Portugal), the presidency of the Union of Portuguese Language Football Federations (UFFLP).

Without specifying the term of office in the institution, the also leader of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF) told Radio 5 the purpose of dignifying the member countries, working towards the development of communities.

“I am grateful for the confidence placed in me by the members of the UFFLP and with the help of all, being able to engage. We are going to take football to be practiced in all communities of our organization”, she reiterated.

The Angolan leader also presides over COSAFA, the football body of the Southern Africa Region.

The Union of Portuguese Language Football Federations is an international association of football federations from countries whose official language is Portuguese.

It was created in May 2022, in Lisbon, Portugal, on the initiative of the Portuguese (FPF) and Brazilian (CBF) federations. The association was inspired by the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), existing since 1996.

The objective of the entity is to reinforce cooperation between member countries in football, with multilateral initiatives that raise the technical level and reinforce the contribution of sport to human, economic and social development.

In addition, it seeks to advance in the progressive international affirmation of all Portuguese-speaking football federations, mainly with the decision of the 72nd FIFA Congress, held in Doha, Qatar, on March 31, 2022, which included Portuguese as a of the official languages ​​of the entity.

Founding members of the organization are the football federations of Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and São Tomé and Príncipe. In addition to the signatories, entities from Equatorial Guinea, Timor-Leste and Macau were subsequently invited.

The founding event took place on May 21, 2022, at Cidade do Futebol, in Lisbon. Present at the event were: Artur Silva, President of the Angolan Football Federation.

Carlos Teixeira, from Guinea-Bissau; Fernando Gomes, Portuguese; Feizal Sidat, Mozambican; Mário Semedo, Cape Verdean; Adalberto Catembe, vice-president of the São Tomé Federation; Teresa Romão, Portuguese General Secretary, as well as directors and other members of the FPF, as well as representatives of UEFA and FIFA.
