Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan Vice President Esperança da Costa on Sunday held a meeting in Washington DC, with the Angolan community residing in the United States of America, as part of strengthening relations between Angola and the diaspora.
When speaking at the meeting, Esperança da Costa highlighted that Angola’s chairpersonship of the African Union is geared towards strengthening peace, regional integration, and sustainable economic development.
She also stated that, in holding the rotating presidency of the African Union, Angola prioritizes an approach focused on harnessing Africa’s human potential, emphasizing that more than 60% of the continent’s population is young.
The Vice President added that this reality imposes the need to invest in empowering young people, equipping them with technological skills and knowledge of artificial intelligence, in order to transform them into a true engine of development for Africa.
Referring to the current geopolitical tensions, wars, and humanitarian crises, the Vice President emphasized that such situations do not contribute to global progress, calling for cooperation and joint efforts among nations to ensure peace, social justice, gender equality, nature conservation, and the fight against poverty.
Esperança da Costa also considered that the US-Africa Summit, held in Luanda, in June, served as an impetus for strengthening relations between Angola and the United States, highlighting the increase in commercial partnerships and the encouragement of closer ties between investors.
The Vice President of the Republic is in Washington D.C. to participate, on the 28th of this month, in the Annual Gala of the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF), an event that brings together world leaders committed to environmental preservation and sustainable development.
