Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the Humanist Party of Angola (PHA), Florbela Malaquias, invited Angolans to reflect on the ideals that guided the country’s independence, asking each citizen to analyze in depth the actions in progress.
Speaking at a conference on Friday (4), he said that the independence of a people represents the highest political expression of a country, bringing together universal principles and values such as freedom, justice, pluralism, solidarity, love, honesty and progress.
He referred that the Independence of Angola, proclaimed on 11 November 1975, does not represent only the armed struggle of Angolans, but the result of the non-armed anti-colonial struggle, the political, cultural and existential struggle of thousands of anonymous Angolans for the affirmation of their identity, human rights and social well-being.
Florbela Malaquias stressed that the unarmed struggle was carried out, silently, in villages, cities, farms and towns, neighborhoods and in mission schools, in pulpits and in church homilies even abroad.
He recalled that this struggle was fought before and after the formal emergence of national liberation movements, by men and women of all nations.
On marking the 47th anniversary of Angola’s independence, proclaimed in the midst of a civil war, Florbela Malaquias reiterated that the conflict was fueled from abroad, and that the PHA intends to fulfill the aspirations of freedom of the peoples of this country.
He welcomed the creation of the Nation-State, post-Independence. “Although we have proclaimed the political independence of Angola’s territory, we have to preserve its integrity, because we still haven’t built the Angolan identity”, he pointed out.
Florbela Malaquias is of the opinion that a “sustainable social security system puts people above markets and sustains national independence”.
