ANIESA launches fight against flavored cigarettes

Africa-Press – Angola. The National Authority for Economic Inspection and Food Safety (ANIESA) decreed Monday a 30-day tolerance for cigarette companies to stop using ingredients that make their products more attractive to consumers.

The institution clarifies that the use of chocolate, strawberry, mint and vanilla hides the harmful effect that cigarettes have on consumers’ health, causing addiction through taste.

Speaking at a press conference on the subject, ANIESA technician, Epifânio Joaquim, informed that during these 30 days the institution will raise awareness about the deceiving attractions that are added to cigarettes to make them more appetizing.

According to him, all economic operators and cigarette manufacturers must regularize themselves and remove from commercial circulation all products that are not in compliance with the guidelines in force.

Epifânio Joaquim underlined that many operators do not know the law, so a pedagogical work on the material will be carried out for 30 days.

“The use of these attractions increases the appearance of cancer of the lung, mouth, larynx, stomach and cardiovascular diseases”, he stressed.

ANIESA warns that at the end of this period, non-compliant operators will be held civilly and criminally liable.
