Africa-Press – Angola. The approval of the Tundavala National Stadium, in Lubango, to host international matches again should be announced “within days”, after the team of inspectors, headed by Mozambican Muhammad Sidat, reported to the African Football Confederation (CAF) what saw on this last visit.

This was given to understand today, Thursday, by the person in charge of high competition at CAF, after the last inspection, to assess the degree of compliance with the recommendations left last February.

Speaking to journalists at the end of an evaluation that lasted almost two hours and ended late at night, Muhammad Sidat refused to pronounce the term “approved”, but admitted that there are “important progress” that can facilitate the aptitude.

Asked if the ordeal was closer, the Mozambican said “yes”, but that it is a process. “We will report to CAF, but we leave here with a different and more positive perspective, for which I congratulate the working group, the provincial government, the FAF and hope that soon Lubango will be able to host international matches”, he stressed.

He highlighted the improvement in the grass, which, according to him, is now up to the required standards and is what was intended. Even so, he reiterated the need to operationalize the video surveillance control room, an aspect that will only complement the work that has already been done.

“The grass is a very positive aspect and today the stadium administration and technicians admit that there was a lot of work to be done, as there was a lot of organic matter on the last visit, but it is completely different, as more than ten trucks of organic matter were removed , that is the great positive point, along with the advances in the tartan track”, he pointed out.

He recalled that in the inspection carried out in February they left some recommendations and they noticed that there has been progress in several areas, namely the technical areas, changing rooms and the tartan track that already has a solid layer, waiting only for the last one.

Tundavala Stadium was built in 2009 to host the following year’s CAN. It has a capacity for 21,150 seats and cost the Angolan State US$65 million.
