Africa-Press – Angola. “Perene Land of Inspiration” is the title of the painting exhibition by the plastic artist Álvaro Macieira, which will be on display until the 13th of this month, at the Angola Pavilion Art Gallery, at Expo 2020 Dubai, curated by Carla Peairo.

Open on Friday, the exhibition brings together the set of works by Álvaro Macieira, which reflects African mythology whose pictorial inspiration is poetry, the philosophy of proverbs, tales, the stories he heard in his rural childhood, the contact with the African arts and traditions, travel, museums he has visited around the world and places of memory.

The artist favors warm, cheerful, golden and bistre tones to give expression to his theme. The dynamic and continuous line, vigorous and textured, gives shape and contours to its characters, semi masks, semi people, adorned by mythical birds, drums, baskets and vegetation, always present in a confident dialogue, facing the observer.

In this exhibition, Álvaro Macieira shows the most varied techniques that he has used over the last two decades of his career, composing a synthesis that clearly demonstrates the pictorial language he developed.

The work reveals the aesthetic diversity that marks the author’s artistic path, from the most surrealist abstractionism to the most symbolic figurative, from gesturalist language, to the purest pictorial representation of African symbolism.

At Expo Dubai he presents 35 works in acrylic on canvas and mixed media, including the series “Angola Kanawa”, “Angola Terra Quente”, “Mukixi”, “Echoes of the Angolan Tradition” and “Angola Xietu Ngassakidila”.

Álvaro Macieira was born May 13, 1958, in the village of Sanza-Pombo, municipality of Pombo, in the province of Uíge.
After having made a brilliant career in Angolan journalism linked to the arts and culture, he revealed his facet as a visual artist in 1998.

The EnsArte Second Prize for Painting in 2000 made the artist come out of his anonymity completely. In 2002 he won the First EnsArte Painting Prize, the highest award in the visual arts promoted by ENSA-Empresa de Seguros de Angola.
