Asa Branca paralyzes collection of sales fees

Africa-Press – Angola. The temporary stoppage of sales tax collection services, since last Monday, by the administrative staff of the Asa Branca Market, has already caused losses of around 1.3 million kwanzas until the beginning of this afternoon.

Workers stopped making daily charges, due to alleged non-compliance by the company Moreira, manager of the Asa Branca Market, almost a year ago, in order to satisfy certain concerns raised by the 146 employees, such as their enrollment in Social Security and the salary increase from 30 or 40 thousand kwanzas to 70 thousand kwanzas.

For employees, the Asa Branca market collects between Kz.600,000.00 and Kz.700,000.00 per day, supposedly enough to satisfy their demands.

The representative of the claims commission, Paulo António, said that the company that won the public tender for management of the Market is not fulfilling the promises made, almost a year ago, regarding salary improvement and delivery of hygiene for cleaning the market.

He added that so far they have not been enrolled in social security and have colleagues with more than 30 years of work and with threatened retirement.

He stresses that they had already met with a commission from the Municipal Administration of Cazenga and a minute was produced, where it was stipulated that within 15 days some concerns should be resolved, which has not happened to date, hence the decision to stop.

He also said that of the 146 employees of the Market in the different areas, only the cleaning ones will maintain the minimum work of cleaning the place.

For his part, the administrator of Mercado Asa Branca, Ezequil João, said that this is an old situation that they have already been negotiating with the managing body to resolve liabilities and insert workers into Social Security.

In his view, based on what the Market collects, it can resolve, gradually, the claims of employees, because in two days of stoppage in collections, they have already lost more than one million Kwanzas.

He also said that as administrator, he is persuading employees to at least maintain the minimum services so that sellers can continue their activity in a clean place.

Press tried to contact the management of Empresa Moreira, manager of Mercado Asa Branca, to react in this regard, but claims unavailability.
