Association joins MEP in creating a thousand startups

Africa-Press – Angola. The reach of a thousand startups in the Angolan market constitutes one of the challenges of the Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP), which plans to count on the participation of this number of digital companies in the 3rd edition of the “Angola Startup Summit”, scheduled for April 2024 .

The respective goal, to be achieved through the National Institute of Support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (INAPEM), will now count on the impetus of the management members of the Angolan Association of Startup and Digital Entrepreneurship (AASED), who demonstrated this Thursday on Friday, in Luanda, the desire to join this cause.

According to the president of AASED, Lisa Videira, she considered it a great challenge, but assured that her association will work hard, in partnership with INAPEM, to achieve this objective.

To achieve this, he said, it will be necessary to create and put into practice a plan for incubators and training programs, as well as “hunting” for new talents in the country’s institutes and universities, with a view to transforming innovative ideas into concrete businesses.

After the AASED management body took office, the person responsible pointed out the creation or emergence of direct financing lines for companies as another challenge that the digital business market still faces in the country.

“Currently, the Angolan corporate market needs greater direct investment, to transform innovative ideas or projects into practice and in a sustainable way, avoiding the failure of good initiatives, even before they are implemented”, he highlighted.

He recognized that the current statuses existing in the national market offer valuable technological solutions, as they present applications aimed at satisfying the various needs of citizens and solving the country’s socio-economic problems.

As an example, the source pointed to the company “Sócia”, which developed an application to support family savings in times of crisis, as one of the technological solutions created to satisfy family needs.

For the same cause, the president of AASED invites other startups, digital entrepreneurs in Angola and interested organizations to join the association, through its website or email [email protected] .

In addition to Lisa Videira (president), the AASED board of directors includes Lúcia Fernandes, president of the Board of the General Assembly, and Erickson Mvezi (president of the Supervisory Board).

Created in 2020 and made official in 2022, with a group of 17 Angolan startups and digital entrepreneurs, AASED’s mission is to foster the ideal environment for the development and growth of startups and digital entrepreneurship in Angola, aiming to contribute to the creation of jobs and a sustainable and innovative digital era economy.

Among the founders of the association, pioneering startups in the Angolan market stand out, such as Kubinga, Kepya, Tupuca, Wiconnect, Sócia and pioneering ecosystem agents (Kianda Hub, Bantu Makers and Founder Institute of Luanda).

Regarding the inauguration of AASED members, the president of the INAPEM Board of Directors, João Nkosi, called on operators already operating in the staturp market to support the new initiatives, with concrete ideas for their implementation and the emergence of more companies in this segment.

When guiding the act of inauguration, the manager reiterated the need to work towards the creation of specific legislation to regulate the status market in Angola.

To measure the number of initiatives, with innovative ideas, in 2022 the first edition of the “Angola Startup Summit” (event to promote entrepreneurship) was held, which saw the participation of close to 35 startups. This number of participations increased to more than 160 startups, in the second edition of this event, held this year in Luanda.

Data from INAPEM indicate that, in Angola, 144 startups are registered. QCB/PPA
