Africa-Press – Angola. The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) argued yesterday in Luanda that the modernization of Angolan justice depends on the application of scientific investigation methods, capable of strengthening the search for procedural truth without violating fundamental rights.

The Attorney General of the Republic, Hélder Fernando Pitta Gróz, opened the International Seminar on Expert Evidence and Interrogation for the Detection of Lies, having emphasized on the occasion that the evidence must always be lawful and that the defendant is not obliged to confess to crimes.

The judge clarified that a confession alone is not enough to support an accusation. “Other evidence must be provided to corroborate it.

“Criminal investigations must be robust and technically sound,” he emphasized. Pitta Gróz revealed that interrogation and evidence gathering are central elements in the search for the truth, but they must be conducted with technical and scientific rigor and respect for due process.
