Africa-Press – Angola. The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) recovered over 7 billion U.S. dollars for the state as part of its fight against economic and financial crimes. The office also seized assets valued at approximately 12 billion U.S. dollars inside and outside the country.

The information was presented on Wednesday during President João Lourenço’s State of the Nation Address. The address highlighted the PGR’s central role in fighting corruption and reaffirmed rule of law.

According to the president, these results follow the commitment of the judicial authorities and the strengthening of the PGR’s institutional capacity. The PGR has worked to tackle embezzlement, corruption, and money laundering, helping to reduce the sense of impunity and restore trust in public institutions.

Despite this progress, President Lourenço acknowledged that the process of repatriating assets faces international challenges due to the absence of effective judicial cooperation mechanisms and the reluctance of certain countries, notably Switzerland, to enforce Angolan court rulings.

“Court rulings are mandatory in any self-respecting state governed by the rule of law,” President João Lourenço emphasized, calling for international cooperation and shared responsibility in the recovery of misappropriated public assets.

The Head of State reaffirmed that combating corruption and impunity is a national top priority and is essential for attracting investment and consolidating good governance.

João Lourenço stated that the PGR’s actions, reinforced by new legal and technical instruments, are seen as a fundamental pillar of reforming the justice system and moralizing society.
